The Heidenhain 749 147-01 is an incremental rotary encoder from the ERN 1387.035 series for precise position and speed feedback on servo and spindle motors. Its complete model designation is ERN 1387.035-2048, combining the mechanical version with a line count of 2.048 per revolution. The encoder has integral bearings and is attached to the motor through a stator coupling. This construction accommodates permitted mechanical tolerances between the rotor and encoder housing without replacing accurate centring and installation to the manufacturer’s specifications. A 5 V DC supply is required. Electrical connection is provided by a straight, double-row 14-pin connector. The tapered shaft with a 9.25 mm functional diameter and a taper ratio of 1:10 is an essential mechanical identity feature. A maximum mechanical speed of 12,000 min⁻¹ is specified for this encoder version. The IP40 rating applies to the encoder in the installed system and requires a suitably protected motor or machine housing.
