Siemens 6ES7 400-1JA00-0AA0 is a universal UR2 rack from the SIMATIC-S7-400 family. The rack forms the mechanical and electrical base of a central or distributed S7-400 station and provides nine backplane slots. In existing plants, the exact order number is particularly important because this supporting system component defines the positions of the power supply, CPU, communication processors, interface modules and signal modules. The Siemens manual describes UR1 and UR2 racks for use as either a central rack or an expansion rack. In a central rack, the power supply is installed on the far left, beginning with slot 1; the CPU and sending interface modules are also used there. When the UR2 serves as an expansion rack, the receiving interface module is positioned on the far right. Signal modules can be operated in the central or expansion rack, depending on the configuration. The integrated communication bus supports data exchange between suitable S7-400 modules, while the P-bus connects the peripheral modules within the rack. For mechanical planning, Siemens documents single-, double- and triple-width modules requiring 25, 50 or 75 mm of space; the maximum depth of a fully equipped S7-400 rack is 237 mm. This allows the rack to be checked precisely against the slot assignment, module widths and control cabinet depth before replacement.
