Control Techniques SP1406 belongs to the established modular Unidrive SP family and combines variable frequency drive and high-performance motor-control functions in a compact frame-size-1 control-cabinet unit. The unique SP1406 type number identifies a three-phase version for 380–480 V AC. In heavy-duty operation, the documented ratings are 4 kW or 5 hp motor power and 9.5 A maximum continuous current. For normal-duty applications, 5.5 kW or 7.5 hp and 11 A continuous current are specified. This makes the drive suitable for installed machine axes where the load profile, motor and parameterization must precisely match the existing Unidrive SP configuration. Its dimensions of 368 mm high, 100 mm wide and 219 mm deep clearly identify the SP1406 as the slim frame-size-1 version. However, output power alone is not sufficient for replacement matching. Before installation, compare the mains voltage, motor current, operating mode, motor type, encoder feedback, installed option modules, braking resistor, control terminals and fieldbus connection. A backed-up parameter set from the existing unit is equally important because machine operation depends on the project-specific configuration. The SP1406 is therefore particularly relevant for maintenance, repair and spare-parts inventory in existing Unidrive SP installations. Typical applications include conveyor systems, packaging machinery, machine tools and other automated production systems with controlled three-phase motors. Required clearances and control-cabinet cooling must be retained during installation. Commissioning must be performed by qualified personnel who verify the motor, mains and control data against the complete machine documentation. Other SP frame sizes or current classes can require different connection, cooling and parameterization conditions despite a similar operator interface.
