Heidenhain 329 983-07 is an enclosed incremental linear encoder from the LS 406C series for linear position measurement on machine tools and positioning axes. This exact version has a 70 mm measuring length and a slim housing for restricted installation spaces. Its measuring standard is a glass scale with DIADUR graduation and a 20 µm grating period. The encoder supplies sinusoidal current signals of 11 µAₛₛ and operates from 5 V DC ±5 %. Accuracy grade is ±5.0 µm. Distance-coded reference marks allow the absolute position to be established after no more than 20 mm of traverse. Permissible traversing speed is up to 120 m/min. When installed as specified, the encoder reaches IP 53 according to IEC 60529; IP 64 is specified with compressed air. The permissible operating temperature range is 0 °C to 50 °C. Electrical connection uses a separate adapter cable, and the maximum permissible cable length to the subsequent electronics is 30 m. For the 70 mm measuring-length version, the Heidenhain dimensional drawing specifies an overall length of ML + 138 mm. The encoder housing therefore measures 208 × 32.2 × 18.2 mm without a connected adapter cable.
