The HEIDENHAIN UP 110 with the ID 341516-01 is a braking resistor module for regenerative converter systems. In normal regenerative operation, the energy generated when the motors brake is fed back into the power grid. If the grid fails, this energy recovery is no longer possible; as a result, the intermediate circuit voltage increases and the converters can switch off, causing the motors to coast down undesirably. For this operating case, HEIDENHAIN recommends a braking resistor module from the UP 1x0 series. The UP 110 takes over the fed-back energy and dissipates it as braking energy. Its switching voltage is DC 740 V. The technical table states approx. 60 kW peak power for 2 s, 50 mm module width, protection class IP20 and a weight of approx. 7 kg. The documented combination of switching voltage, peak power, time limit, width, protection class and weight must completely match the existing module. The compact width makes it easier to classify it within a suitable HEIDENHAIN inverter system, but does not replace checking the complete system configuration. The UP 110 is documented as an optional component for regenerative UR-2xx compact converters. In modular regenerative converters, it is used together with a UV(R)-1x0(D) supply unit, commutation choke, line filter and the required UM power modules. Non-regenerative systems use other braking resistor solutions; in particular, UE-1xx compact inverters have an integrated braking resistor and do not allow an external braking resistor. Before replacing, ID 341516-01, module name UP 110, regenerative system type, supply unit, compact or modular design and mechanical installation width must be checked together. The switching voltage of DC 740 V is a functional value of the module and must not be understood as a general nominal voltage of every connected system.
