Within the SINAMICS S120 drive system, Siemens 6SL3040-0MA00-0AA1 is the CU320 Control Unit responsible for communication as well as open-loop and closed-loop control of connected system components. Four DRIVE-CLiQ sockets connect Motor Modules, Line Modules and other DRIVE-CLiQ devices. Higher-level communication uses one PROFIBUS interface, and a serial RS232 connection is also provided. This order number denotes the version without a CompactFlash card. Signal processing uses eight electrically isolated digital inputs and eight non-isolated bidirectional digital inputs/outputs. Six of the bidirectional channels can operate as high-speed digital inputs. The input voltage range is -3 to 30 V, with -3 to 5 V as the low level and 15 to 30 V as the high level. Typical input current at 24 V DC is 10 mA. Maximum current consumption of the Control Unit is 0.8 A, excluding digital outputs, option slot and DRIVE-CLiQ supply. The digital outputs operate at 24 V DC with a maximum load current of 500 mA per channel and continuous short-circuit protection. Power loss is 20 W. Housing dimensions are 50 × 300 × 226 mm, and documented device weight is approximately 1.5 kg. The complete order number, CU320 format and interface arrangement distinguish this early Control Unit from later CU320-2 versions.
