A SIMATIC S7-400 gains a dedicated PROFIBUS-DP interface with the Siemens 6GK7443-5DX04-0XE0. The CP 443-5 Extended communication processor handles S5 communication as well as PG/OP and S7 communication. Physical bus connection is through a 9-pin Sub-D socket to RS485. Depending on bus configuration, the transmission rate ranges from 9.6 kbit/s to 12 Mbit/s. This version has no Industrial Ethernet interface. In the S7-400 rack, the processor is supplied at 5 V DC through the backplane bus; the permitted symmetrical voltage tolerance is five percent. The module typically draws 1 A from the backplane bus. Documented power loss is 5.5 W. The CP is a single-width S7-400 compact module inserted directly into the rack. Status and fault LEDs, an operating-mode switch and the front PROFIBUS socket form the visible controls and connections. Up to 48 connections are documented for S7 communication. A maximum of 14 communication processors can be considered per CPU. Front indicators separately report operating states and bus faults. The specified ambient temperature range for operation is 0 to 60 °C. For storage and transport, −40 to 70 °C applies. Relative humidity may reach 95 percent at 25 °C provided that condensation does not occur. The enclosure has IP20 protection. The complete order number identifies the DX04 revision with firmware version from V6.1, distinguishing it from earlier DX versions and the later DX05 variant. Supply voltage, current consumption and PROFIBUS signals use separate backplane-bus and front connections. The module measures 25 × 290 × 210 mm and weighs 650 g.
